As evidenced by a screenshot that Jason Citron, the CEO of Discord, shared in pre-release, Discord could soon offer support for MetaMask integrations. Discord’s community expressed concerns over the update and threatened to cancel their Nitro subscriptions.
Citron’s announcement about the upcoming Ethereum Blockchain integration was in response to Packy McCormick’s tweet, which shared an article entitled:
“Imagine a website for humans. Imagine a place that is full of dank memes. Imagine a place where potatoes flourish. Imagine a place where bots and humans live in harmony. Imagine, in other words, a place like Discord.”probably nothing pic.twitter.com/p4P6MoNGgd

Although Citron’s screenshot from the pre-released Discord app aims to accelerate crypto adoption, the gaming industry resisted it by highlighting the ongoing problems with carbon emissions and money laundering as well as uncertainties in the nonfungible token market (NFT).
The backlash led to many users cancelling their subscriptions for Discord Nitro, the premium service that the platform offers at $4.99 per month or $49.99 for one year. Olivia, a Discord user, said:
NFTs being used in discord will cause bad PR and a decline in Nitro subscriptions due to a large number of people cancelling. NFTs are used mainly for tax evasion and money laundering. This is all a Ponzi scheme. This is a ponzi scheme.

Many gamers see this as a positive step in the right direction, and many others agree with them. Bryce NFT, another user who responded to Olivia’s argument, said:
“You have just called the NFT Space a Ponzi Scheme without any evidence.” If you don’t know anything about the space, don’t comment.
